Mission.

Every gunshot a witness. Every witness a record.

In plain terms: turn the phones already in people's pockets into a corroborating witness network for firearm discharge. Build the record a witness walks away with — sealed, exportable, theirs to use for 911, claims, or testimony. The microphone is watched on-device; only an acoustic fingerprint ever leaves; peer corroboration turns a match into a confirmed event; and the proof rests with whoever heard the shots.

Why RoundSift Exists.

Existing acoustic sensor networks cover census tracts a city has chosen to deploy into. Everything else — unincorporated suburbs, smaller cities, rural corridors, transit rights-of-way — sits outside that footprint. Roundsift extends the witness where dedicated sensors are not, by using what is already in a pocket: a smartphone. Coverage stops being a function of a city's sensor budget and becomes a function of how many people in a place have opted in to listen.

Technology approach.

An on-device detector watches the microphone for the impulse signature of a firearm discharge — short rise-time, broadband, distinctive against car backfires, fireworks, and construction noise. Matching events are fingerprinted locally against a library of acoustic profiles, scored on the phone, and only the fingerprint ever leaves the device.

When several phones on the same block register a matching impulse within seconds, their GPS and timestamps triangulate a coarse source area and the event is upgraded to confirmed. Every event — partial or confirmed — becomes a sealed, verifiable record: time, fingerprint, neighborhood, corroborating-phone count, and confidence score.

Privacy philosophy.

An on-device analyzer discards raw audio unless its shape matches the impulse signature of a firearm discharge. Only a small acoustic fingerprint — a few hundred bytes — ever leaves the phone.

• Coarse GPS, only on corroboration.There is no continuous location trail. Only the coarse GPS fix tied to a corroborated event is captured — and only enough to triangulate a source area, not a moving dot.
• Acoustic fingerprint only.The payload that leaves the phone is a fingerprint: a few dozen scoring features, a timestamp, a confidence score, and a coarse GPS fix. There is no raw audio in the payload. There is no PII.
• Short-lived records, exportable to you.Each sealed record is bounded: timestamp, coarse GPS, fingerprint, confidence. Records are opt-in by geography and time window, and exportable to you. Partner sharing requires opt-in and is narrow.
• No movement trail.There is no continuous location logging and no per-user behavior profile. The network records events, not people. What you hold is the record, not a trail.

Pilot program.

Pilots roll out in seven metros this spring, scoped by environment rather than deal size. A pilot instruments a defined area — a city, a campus, a property, a community — and runs a measurement plan together. The deployment grows only after the numbers hold up.
